Center Dance Ensemble (CDE) was created in 1988 by
the Herberger Theater Centeras its resident modern dance company. The company is responsible for
major performance runs during the season as well as 25 weeks of rehearsal.
CDE has performed throughout Arizona,
including at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, the Joseph City
Center, Pima Community
College Performing Arts Theater, The University of Arizona Centennial Hall,
and the Stevie Eller Dance Theater.
CDE was chosen as one of five Arizona
dance companies to participate in the Arizona Commission on the Arts' Dance
on Tour project and has been on the Commission's roster since 1988.
Other dances performed by the company include Slaughter on Tenth
Avenue and by choreographer Cliff Keuter, NuageRising and It
All Boils Down to Me by Chicago
choreographer Tim O'Slynn, Snow Queen, Hamlet the Ballet, La Llorona,
and The Attic by Artistic Director Frances Smith Cohen. Major
works for CDE have also been choreographed by Donald Dadey, Toronto-based choreographer Michael
Montanaro, and Robin Allen
from Vancouver.
